Workshops for C-Resorts
11%+ Improvement for luxury resort following Jez’s workshop on Mauritius
When global luxury holiday destination company Constance Hotels & Resorts launched a brand new style of resort, they knew everything had to change to appeal to a younger, more demanding type of guest.
“C-Resorts” launched with luxurious Mauritian resorts that have a more playful atmosphere, encouraging guests to run wild, let go, and share unforgettable moments. The change was palpable and different right from the point of recruitment, with C-Resorts calling for a different type of applicant than the usual hospitality pool; they knew they could teach their people the mechanics of hospitality, but needed personalities: dancers, actors, magicians, musicians - people with an energy and spark that could help create a playful atmosphere within natural, breath-taking surroundings. They understood that people were key to the success of the new C-Resorts.
Head of Talent and Culture for Constance Hotels & Resorts sought out Jez to develop a unique programme to help instil passionate determination in the new team; lead to tangible results; create measurable behavioural change, and shape and launch the new culture for the success of this entirely new direction for the luxury brand. In addition, Jez was asked to create a Train the Trainer programme to help roll out consistent training for new recruits.
The entire programme was created by Jez and his team in just five weeks, and Jez flew to the island of Mauritius where he spent three days with the new C-Resorts team at the stunning Belle Mare Plage, a remarkable property boasting 2 Championship golf courses, 278 rooms, suites and villas, 4 swimming pools, a 10 treatment room spa, 6 bars, and 7 restaurants. Every update we had from Jez mentioned the food!
Talking of amazing food, the proof, as they say, is in the pudding, and something Jez keeps his eyes firmly fixed on is results:
“I care passionately about the way people behave, and about helping organisations to create fulfilling, results-driven, energising cultures where everyone is able to flourish. What I do matters, and after 20 years of working with organisations worldwide I’m more committed than ever to ensure my time with them results in improvements. Otherwise, what’s the point?"
This job was a dream come true for Jez as it combined everything he is passionate about: developing people to perform at their very best; the environment (Constance is a pioneer for the island of Mauritius, helping to drive and maintain positive environmental impact); intimate deep-drive training workshops, and developing programmes with legacy. And of course, the food was amazing - which we didn’t stop hearing about.
In shareholder reports distributed by the Constance Hotels & Resorts CEO and Board Director, the results of the Employee Engagement Survey were shared showing significant improvements from the 2 years prior: from 68.23% to 79.44%, with improvements in overall guest satisfaction scores - a testimony to the individuals recruited, and the work everyone put into creating a culture that delivered palpable results.
While numbers tell a story of sorts, Jez is always more interested in other behavioural tangibles, one of which is emotional impact, which is what all effective cultures should achieve. On his last day Jez was gifted a huge book detailing the history and highlights of the Constance story, signed by many of those in the training sessions. Just some of the messages read:
“I have never been so captivated by a training session.”
“It was a real pleasure to have you in Mauritius. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and energy.”
“Thanks for your energy and motivation - you are officially the C- Cheerleader!”
and one last one:
“Thank you very much for sharing your passion and giving us the motivation to see things differently.”
I’d say it was a resounding success, wouldn’t you?
